Limited edition Space Invader Coca-Cola can

Not sure if this is a collaboration between Coca Cola and Space Invader, the Parisian street artist, or with Space Invaders the old skool Japanese video game. In fact, I’m not sure which is cooler so it probably doesn’t matter…

Nike turns ex-strip club into a skatepark & gig venue in Biarritz, France

Ever heard of Le Love Love strip club in Biarritz, France? No, nor had I until I checked out these videos of what this former strip club has now been turned into by Nike 6.0.

Out with the strippers and in with the dudes, as this multi-million pound shag pad has now been transformed into an extreme sports hub called the Nike Roundhouse.

It includes a nice looking skatepark, video screening (such as the Nike 6.0 girls’ surf video, ‘Leave A Message’) & making, surf facilities, photogrpahy exhibitions and designing your own trainers.

I love that once it gets dark they whack up a stage, get bangs like the Black Lips to play and open up the pool for pool parties. So sick.

Hot girls explain the rules of rugby in the new Lynx advert

I live in Twickenham, the home of English rugby, and I’ve been watching quite a lot of the  2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand over the past couple of weeks. Recently, I was shocked to discover that a large number of my friends don’t give a shit about rugby as they don’t understand the rules.

So, this post is mostly for them (but I expect you may enjoy it too) to help them understand and appreciate this beautiful game through the medium of scantily clad ladieeeez.

The Nike 6.0 girls’ surf video, Leave A Message

I’ve been skating my Nike Dunks a lot recently and thinking about getting a fresh pair and then stumbled across Leave A Message featuring the Nike 6.0 girls’ surf team.

If you’re not into surfing, you’ll probably still enjoy the nice photography at the beginning of each section and, if that fails, there’s always the surfer chicks carving waves like nothing else.

Directed by Jason Kenworthy. Filmed & edited by Aaron Lieber. Featuring: Carissa Moore (Hawaii), Lakey Peterson (USA), Laura Enever (Australia), Coco Ho (Hawaii), Byrne-Wickey Monyca (Hawaii) and Malia Manuel (Hawaii)

StoryCorps’ 9/11 animation tributes.

It was obivously a big weekend last week in rememberance of the ten years since 9/11. The tributes swept through the media in all sorts of ways, from the tradtional archive footage to therolling  livenews  updates from lower Manhattan.

However, the tribute that really caught my eye as something quite refreshing, and made the whole event quite human without the constant shocking re-run of footage.

The non-profit organization Storycorps has recorded the personal histories of tens of thousands of Americans, including several personal tributes to loved ones lost in the terrorist attack on 9/11, which were transformed into animated shorts by the Rauch Brothers.

Check out these Videos about three of the victims from The World Trade Center that day.

For me, I did not know anybody who was a victim on 9/11. However, I think these videos do a great job in bringing the audience to feel just a glimpse of what thousands of relatives must of felt by targeting a singular personal tradegy rather than focusing on the event as a whole storyboard with the dramatic explosions, jumpers, last phone calls, collaspes and wide spread panic.

I think it is noteworthy how spine chillingly the footage hits you just as hard as it did 10 years ago. Hopefully we won’t witness anything like that again in our lifetime and beyond.

Omid Djalili at the Bearcat Comedy Club

So, a couple of weeks ago I tweeted about the awesome performance of Omid Djalili at the Bearcat Comedy club round the corner from me in Twickenham. By coincidence, Omid saw it, was flattered and then tweeter back to say that he’d come back for another gig before starting his next tour…

Before Omid Djalili came on was some great support acts, including Lucy Porter (VERY funny, and now one of my favourite female comedians of all time – sorry Shappi Khorsandi) and Philberto (a quick whitted character comedian who you should avoid heckling if you want to keep your integrity intact) pictured below with a rather embarrassed heckler, Conrad, in the foreground on the right.

Also, check out Julian Deane if you’re into that awkward-slash-not-sure-if-you-should-laugh-or-cry kind of humour which I, personally, found fucking hilarious.

All in all, I’d strongly recommend the Bearcat Comedy club for some truly outstanding comedians – both well known and not so well known – at a great price. This weekend, see Gordon Shouthern, Debra Jane-Appleby, Ian Moore and Ian Incognito amongst others for only about a tenner and grab some decent food from The Turks Head next door too.

Big thanks to the compare and Bearcat Comedy Club organiser, James (the tall fella pictured above), who offered us complimentary tickets and introduced us to the lovely Omid Djalili after the gig. Also, happy birthday to MY DAD (on the right) who was 100 last week.

Happy 25th Birthday Slam City Skates (and me)

It’s my 25th birthday today so I thought I’d share the trailer for Slam City Skates‘ 25th anniversary film ‘City of Rats’. Watch it and weep – especially the (pictured) hard flip at 1m 18s.

Check out Henry Edwards-Wood’s website Hold Tight Film too for more like this – although you could easily waste a day watching one film after the other so beware!

Old adverts that would NEVER make it past the ASA now

Let’s face it, they’re all hilarious – but which is your favourite of these rather funny adverts? Mine’s the one above, read it – it’s one of the funniest adverts I’ve seen ever, ever.
